Submission Guidelines for Jacobs Lounge

Using the artist’s exhibition theme as the starting point, the gallery puts each personal story into a universal context. The result, ranging from playful to dramatic, is always meaningful and thought provoking.

We welcome all artists who explore themes that resonate with the many communities who call our centre home. The Miles Nadal JCC has been an important cultural hub in downtown Toronto for over 50 years. Our programs and services are guided by Jewish values, and are open to all, regardless of race, origin or religious affiliation. We have found that many of those values are universal, and the JACOBS LOUNGE visual arts space is a perfect opportunity to explore them together.

Criteria for Submission

 

To have your work reviewed by the JACOBS LOUNGE curatorial team, please follow the guidelines below:

  1. Submit your work in any of the following formats:
  • URLs where we can view the work online.
  • Photographs or JPG files
  • Picture files on a CD-ROM or DVD
  • Pamphlets or Catalogs

Where applicable, please include a corresponding list of images, indicating title, medium, size and year of execution. Generally speaking, shows should have a clear theme; however, a ‘best of’ portfolio may be considered. Please do not submit actual works of art.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE FOR THE 2010-2011 SEASON IS JUNE 1, 2010

  1. Please include cover letter telling us about yourself, explaining your project, and a current CV

Please note that because of the multi-purpose nature of our gallery, we almost exclusively display works done on flat surfaces.

The process of reviewing your work may take a couple of months. We will contact you once we have made our choices for the gallery season. During the initial phase of the review, we cannot make personal visits to studios or private collections. Should there be sufficient interest we will contact you to organize any special arrangements.

Since its opening in 2005, the JACOBS LOUNGE visual arts space has exhibited dozens of local and international artists. We have also partnered with various cultural organizations, galleries and festivals.
